In Ontario, Canada if you have been in business for five years, it’s time to renew your business name registration with the government.
Every five years Service Ontario requires a business renewal to ensure someone else doesn’t take your name. So it is imperative you renew your name registration before the five years have expired. To view the online form, head over to http://www.ontario.ca/en/services_for_business/index.htm It costs $60 to register or renew your business name here in Ontario.
I’m not sure what the requirements are in other provinces or states but it would probably be a good idea to look into this for your locality to ensure your business name doesn’t get taken by someone else!
